Ah, the “artist bio.” Let’s not kid ourselves: this is where I get to tell you how wicked awesome I am, preferably in third person so it looks like I can afford to hire a publicist to write my bios for me. Let’s get started!

Okay. Here’s the part where I try to impress you by spinning some mundane childhood fact into an indication of prodigy. You know, “Scott was born a genius and already writing hit songs before he could eat solid food” and that sort of thing.

Here’s the part where I say that my folk-tinged acoustic pop “defies convention,” refuses to be classified and is, like, so totally and utterly unique, even though listeners easily compare me to artists like Guster, Shawn Mullins and Matt Nathanson.

And here’s the part where I tell you about the success of my latest record, which I recorded in my basement on a shoestring budget just like every other income-challenged singer-songwriter. Here’s a vague mention of some past songwriting awards or accolades, none of which hold much relevance today. Yay me!

Of course, no bio is complete without a long, boring list of every venue I’ve ever played, every radio station that has ever played my songs, and every opening slot I was lucky enough to land. Just imagine that list right here.

And here’s where I try to sell you an image of indie-cool hipster credibility, even though I harbor an affinity for the works of Phil Collins, and secretly wish I were Sting.
